ADULT STUDENTS
Lee County High Tech Center Central is open to all persons 16 years of age who are interested in technical education as preparation for employment. Minimum state standards must be met before completing with a program certificate. All adult students are required to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). TABE testing is $15 (cash only). Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Crossover programs require prospective students to take the Florida Basic Ability Test (FBAT) for admission. High Tech Central complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1973 in regard to students with disabilities and strictly adheres to the nondiscrimination policy adopted by the Lee County School Board. Federal and state legislation requires the provision of accommodations for students with disabilities to meet individual needs and ensure equal access. Adult students with disabilities must self-identify and request such services. Students with disabilities may need accommodations in such areas as instructional methods and materials, assignments and assessments, time demands and schedules, learning environment, assistive technology and special communication systems. Documentation of the accommodations requested and provided should be maintained in a confidential file.
State Statute 1004.91 exempts any student from taking the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) who has an Associate or higher degree. All Licensed Practical Nursing prospective students are required to take the math section of the TABE test regardless of degree held.
Applications for Health Science Education programs are accepted year round. Some programs have additional requirements. Qualified students applying for admission are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please refer to program descriptions in the catalog.
A $20 nonrefundable registration fee is required when an adult student completes a program registration.
ACCOMODATIONS FOR EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION STUDENTS
Federal and state legislation requires the provision of accommodations for students with disabilities to meet individual needs and ensure equal access. Adult students with disabilities must self-identify and request such services. For students with documented disabilities (ESE, IDEA or 504), accommodations may be granted concerning the TABE testing, requirements and program entrance (FAC Rule 6A-10.040 and Rule 6A-1.0943). Accommodations that may be provided include, but are not limited to (1) different version of the TABE, (2) additional time, (3) seating accommodations, (4) assistance with directions, (5) mechanical assistance, and (6) large print editions. For those students accepted into a technical program, but have not been able to reach the designated exit criteria on the TABE, this requirement may be waived.
